Sobriety
For a new beginning YOU have to start somewhere.
I started with sobriety.
In order for me to get myself back together I had to set up the best situation to win.
After my injury I used alcohol to stay calm. I leaned into alcohol relying on it to give me relief from stress, anxiety, anger, fear, depression and hopelessness. I became dependent on alcohol to get through my day.
There are many ways that people cope with stress, depression, and anxiety.
Alcohol
illegal drugs
prescribed drugs
sex
food
social media
gaming
work
TV
movies
and many more.
For me, I did not want to give up drinking. I said to myself “I don’t have a problem”.
Then why was it so hard for me to stop drinking?
It’s because I’m an alcoholic. Alcohol is no longer a liquid to me, it is courage, comfort, and distance from things that bother me.
By the grace of God, my wife, my family, and my friends I have now been sober for approximately 3 years.
I never thought I’d be where I am today, sober and healthy, again.
I found sobriety through hitting rock bottom, Faith and Alcoholics Anonymous.
So the real question is,
Do you think you need to learn more about an addiction?
I did. I was lost, scared, isolated, and pissed off.
Sobriety saved my life and it will save yours.
I believe in you.
